Mangosteen Orally is an extract of mangosteen fruit-hull that both used as a dietary supplement for relieving of diarrhea and for lowering the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in the blood. In research reports, those of properties due to its active ingredients are xanthones such as a-, b-, g-mangostins, and other xanthone derivatives. In antidiarrheal activity, these xanthones to inhibit against the bacterium caused to the diarrhea such as Salmonella agona, Shigella boydii, and so on. In the LDL lowering, the LDL caused to the atherosclerosis (blood vessel plugging). Furthermore, these xanthones show the antihypertensive activity by blocking onto the calcium channel and adrenoceptor in the thoracic aorta (blood vessel in the heart), and to inhibit against the platelet aggregation that also caused to the atherosclerosis.
