               Four o’clock is an herbaceous plant originating in tropical areas in America. It is widely grown as an ornamental plant. In traditional Thai medicine, the root is used as a laxative due to its alkaloid named trigonelline. The leaf is used for anti-itching remedies, and abscess poultices. The seed is used for an anti-freckle treatment. Research has found that the seed contains Mj-AMP₁ and Mj-AMP₂, which have antimicrobial activity. In cosmetics, it is used as an active ingredient in anti-acne products for acne caused by follicular infection.
