Camphor-tree is a middle-sized perennial plant. Its every parts have a characteristic scent, especially the root and the pedestal. Camphor-tree originates from China and Japan. Nowadays, it is widely cultivated in tropical and semi-tropical areas. The wood is extracted for its oil, in Thai traditional medicine; it is used as a carminative, as a pain reliever, and as a headache alleviator due to the properties of essential oils that are composed of camphor, safrole, eugenol, and terpineol. These properties are effective in dilating blood vessels and reduce intestinal constriction. In cosmetics, it can be used for reducing inflammation and oiliness of the skin, and as an ingredient in products for curing the burnt wounds.
