Barleria is a one-meter-sized shrub. It is medically used as an antidote for insect bites. The leaf contains Iridoids, which act as anti-inflammatory and as analgesic agents. In traditional Thai medicine, the leaf is used as an antidote for snake and insect bites. In addition, Barleria can also be a treatment for skin diseases and scalds. Iridoids in the leaf have properties that can be used to produce an ointment to cure rashes, caused by insect bites.
